WASHINGTON (TND) — The search for a convicted murdererin Pennsylvania has entered its seventh day Wednesday and officials have released information about his escape.
Danelo Cavalcante, 34, was able to break out of the Chester County prison by climbing onto the roof and fleeing, a law enforcement source confirmed to CNN.
Pennsylvania State Police will provide an update on their search efforts at 3 p.m.
A US Marshals Service official said around 200 law enforcement personnel are trying to "stress him" out of hiding.
Law enforcement officers have been using drones, helicopters and dogs in their search for Cavalcante and have been broadcasting a message in Portuguese recorded by his mother, urging him to peacefully surrender.
His escape has forced two school districts in Pennsylvania to close for a second day as police advise residents to say inside and keep their doors and cars locked.
Cavalacante broke out of the Chester County Prison Thursday after being convicted of first-degree murder on August 16 for killing his former girlfriend in front of her children in 2021. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Officials began their search in a heavily wooded area in Pocopson Township and Chester County which is within two miles of the prison.
On Tuesday, the search perimeter expanded after a trail camera recorded him at Longwood Gardens just south of where police were looking for him.
Authorities added Cavalcante somehow obtained a backpack, a "duffel-sling type pack" and a hooded sweatshirt.
He should not be approached directly by the public, officials said. He currently has an open arrest warrant in Brazil related to a 2017 murder.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his capture.
